Nashville city employees might soon have the authority to give citations during public health emergencies.
Metro Nashville At-Large Council member Steve Glover told The Tennessee Star Wednesday that it’s “the stupidest idea I have ever seen in my life.”
Yet Metro Council members may soon explore such a proposal.
“I think we are putting our employees in a very awkward position. And one that I think is far too dangerous to place them in. I am very concerned about the liability for the city as a whole. What happens to that individual who is a city worker who goes out and gets a little too ambitious with it and they pick the wrong person that gets mad? And then that person either beats the fire out of them or does something terrible to them?” Glover asked.
“I just don’t think we’re thinking this all the way through. I think we are thinking way too shallow on it. And I’m very very concerned. I think it’s a terrible, terrible idea.”
None of the other 40 Metro Council members returned The Star’s request for comment Wednesday. Staff for Nashville Mayor John Cooper also did not return our message.
According to Nashville Public Radio, Cooper might “have more flexibility to give enforcement authority to city departments other than the police.”
“If the Metro Council approves, more Metro staffers could give out civil citations,” the station reported.
“One of the mayor’s top advisors, Mike Jameson, told the council there have been recent moments when the law would have come in handy.”
Glover told The Star that local governments train and commission police officers to do this work for a reason — that’s what they’re trained to do.”
“My Constituents are mad. They cannot believe the government is reaching this way. You know what my base is. If you want to find a way to tick them off, well, I’m trying to figure out what is left. We have raised their taxes massively. We have talked about wanting to defund the police. Thank God we haven’t,” Glover said.
“Now we are saying we will expand government even more. There is nothing about this that your conservatives and even moderates [like]. Frankly, they are thinking ‘Have you lost your minds up there?’ and the answer to that is yes, apparently we have.”

The reason for this could be that a huge number of Metro PD officers have bailed out in light of all the Liberal BS about defunding police departments and disallowing law enforcement officers to do what is needed to protect themselves and the public. No one is left to serve warrants and citations , and the government is getting desperate – but they would like to keep that a secret.
Like I’ve said he is the most stupid ass we could have put in office and this is just the beginning if they have enough employees to do this lay them off and lower our taxes
Communist goals, excerpted from the 1958 book, “The Naked Communist,” by Cleon Skousen:
38. Transfer some of the powers of arrest from the police to social agencies. Treat all behavioral problems as psychiatric disorders which no one but psychiatrists can understand or treat.
39. Dominate the psychiatric profession and use mental health laws as a means of gaining coercive control over those who oppose Communist goals.
Whatever they do, better not issue a citation to a homeless person. We saw what happened last time.
Even being a son and nephew of iconic and assassinated political figures, it’s no wonder that he is virtually black listed by the American media:
“Governments love Pandemics the same way they love wars. It gives them power. It gives them control. And gives them the capacity to impose obedience on human beings. And today we have an inflection of new technology that gives governments the capacity to impose controls on human populations that have never been imagined by any tyrant in history “–Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. speaking in Berlin on Aug 29, 2020
Hey Ron-delisted not black-that B rayciss
Yes, that’s exactly what we need. A bunch of untrained idiots enacting their own personal brand of social justice on the public. I do agree this will put their health at risk…especially if they approach me. To quote Fred G. Sandford, “How’d you like five of these across your lips….”
As long as city officials are allowed to get their hair done I don’t see a problem with it. NOT! America has lost its mind because it’s lost its underlying philosophy of liberty. It’s a sad day for the land of the not so free home of the not so brave.
I wonder how many of Nashville’s employees are going to risk being taken to court or worse because somebody with a napoleon complex instructs them to give out citations?
And don’t you love when now all of these employees go from “public servant” to “public pugilist”! Maybe citizens will start to think twice before voting for budget increasing representatives that give employees wage increases!
Uh oh….here comes the “Karen” mask Gestapo! Nashville is officially trying to one-up Portland in stupidity.
Listen to this smart man. Comrade Cooper is probably pushing with his brown shirts In the council. Innocent employees that turned no one in could get the hell beat out of them. Also innocent business owners could be hurt. Cooper’s scamdemic is winding down and this is introduced, just another reason to despise Cooper and his brown shirts in the council.. Thank you Steve Glover for being a voice of reason. People hate the stupid mask anyway, Cooper is an idiot and terribly unpopular – people are looking for a manner in which to show their displeasure with Cooper and his power grab, someone is gonna get hurt.. What a stupid idea!
Good luck with my “local government” person tries to give me a Citation. I cant imagine that Sanitation workers in Casey Homes would even attempt this stupid EDICT.
ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!
OPEN NASHVILLE you little miniNapoleon!
